This anti-spam and antivirus solution is capable of serving a wide range of businesses that have anywhere from 10 to 200,000 employees. Currently, it can be integrated into nearly any existing email infrastructure since it’s compatible with all email servers.
There are currently 4 Barracuda Spam Firewall models: the 100, 200, 300, and 400. Each of these has been designed to support companies of varying sizes. The Model 100, for example, supports between 1 and 50 active email users, while the most expensive model, the Model 400, can support up to 5,000 users. The 400 also comes with additional features, such as single sign-on and remote clustering, which are essential for large businesses.

Several sophisticated methods are utilized by the Barracuda Spam Firewall for defending an organization’s network. Some of these include virus scanning, IP reputation analysis, a spam fingerprint check, and the ability to specify your own rules when it comes to what gets in the network and what doesn’t. When spam or threatening applications are detected, the Barracuda box either discards them or gives you the option to review the offending files. Installation of the system is fairly straightforward and simple. Connect the device to your network, provide it with an IP address, and change your domain’s MX record so that it points to the Barracuda Spam Firewall. This will ensure that all emails are received by the Barracuda before they reach anyone’s inboxes. To configure the system, a user friendly Web-based interface is provided, so there is no need to worry about installing any additional software. The downside is that it can take some time for an organization to achieve the perfect configuration and properly differentiate between spam and legitimate email. Lots of whitelisting will need to be done, but the included Outlook plugin can help. Overall, the Barracuda performs well once it has been properly configured and its cost is considerably lower than many of its competitors. Ultimately, the final decision any organization will have to make before investing in the Barracuda Spam Firewall is whether or not their current email server can be optimized to block spam and viruses alone. |
